This raw piece of matrix (host rock) is coated with a thin layer of fluorescing chalcedony. It fluoresces very pale white/yellow colors under shortwave and longwave UV light.
This specimen was mined in Hardistonville, New Jersey.

The crystal was photographed using a 36 watt SW lamp. The pictures have not been retouched.
*You will need a true filtered Shortwave UV light or a longwave light in order to see the fluorescence shown in the pictures.
Shortwave lamps have a range of 200-280 nm.
Longwave lights have a spectrum of 315-400 nm and are also called UVA.
*Please keep in mind that exposure to UV light is dangerous. We recommend the use of protective goggles and gloves (or wearing sunscreen in the hands) when handling minerals under UV light*
