This specimen has some fluorescent willemite, calcite, hydrozincite, and franklinite.
The best fluorescence can be seen with a shortwave (SW 254nm) UV light, and also fluoresces under a longwave (LW 365nm) UV light and a midwave (MW 310nm) UV light.

Weight: 7.16 oz - 203 g
Size: 4" x 2.75" x 1.25"
Locality: Lang Shaft, Hamburg Mine, Franklin, New Jersey.

*You will need a true filtered Shortwave (SW 254nm) UV light, a Longwave (LW 365nm) UV light, or a Midwave (MW 310nm) UV light in order to see the fluorescence shown in the pictures (as marked on each picture)*
*Regular black lights, purple lights, or blue lights don't usually work for fluorescent minerals, so make sure you use the proper indicated UV light*
*Please keep in mind that the higher the UV light's wattage is, the brighter the fluorescent reaction will be*

This specimen was photographed using a Longwave 365nm Convoy C8 light, an Engenious Designs Midwave 310nm UV flashlight, and a 36 watt filtered Shortwave 254nm ultraviolet lamp. The pictures have not been retouched.

*You will need a true filtered Shortwave UV light in order to see the fluorescence shown in the pictures. A Longwave UV light will show some fluorescence but not the best.

-Shortwave lamps have a range of 200-280 nm and are also called UV-C. (254 nm are recommended)
-Midwave lights have a spectrum of 280-315 nm and are also called UV-B (310-314 nm are recommended)
-Longwave lights have a spectrum of 315-400 nm and are also called UV-A. (365 are recommended)

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about fluorescence or fluorescent lights.

*Please keep in mind that exposure to UV light is dangerous. We recommend the use of protective goggles and gloves (or wearing sunscreen in the hands) when handling minerals under UV light*
